Betty Louise (Hopkins) Gunter, age 87, passed away on April 4, 2015 at Wolfe Living Center in Harrah, OK. She was born on August 6, 1927, in Burns, Kansas, to John and Lois (Edmonds) Hopkins. Betty attended Enterprise Academy and she and her husband Marvin were both graduates of Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska. Betty was an elementary and secondary teacher and a music teacher before her retirement. Marvin had also been an elementary and secondary teacher and a librarian. Among other places, she and her husband, Marvin, worked in Colorado; Ohio; Ardmore, Oklahoma; Sandia View Academy, New Mexico; Rialto Junior Academy, California; Cedar Lake Academy, Michigan; and Southwestern Adventist University, Keene, Texas. Betty earned her Master’s degree in Church Musicianship from Texas Woman’s University in 1978. After retirement Betty and Marvin lived in Mena, Arkansas, Ozark, Arkansas, then Berryville, Arkansas. Betty enjoyed sewing, reading, and playing the organ (Burton, 2015).
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Marvin L. Gunter Jr.. She leaves behind her son David Gunter and wife, Sheila; 3 daughters, Kathleen Harriss and husband, David, Karen Owens and husband, Paul, and Rebecca Burton and husband, Stephen; 2 brothers, Don Hopkins and wife, Pat, and Everett Hopkins and wife, Loretta; 2 sisters, LaVerna Woods, and Doris Darbo and husband, Jere; 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Betty was buried at Berryville Memorial Cemetery at a memorial service held August 15, 2016 (Burton, 2015).
