Lake Charles Black Church Organized in 1944
In 1944, Elder J. H. Williams, assisted by Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Batson, and Birdie McCluster, held a series of meetings for the black population of Lake Charles. As a result, the conference president, Frank D. Wells, was able to organize the Lake Charles black church with thirty members on September 16, 1944 (Batson, 1944).
