Slidell Adventurer and Pathfinder Clubs

Slidell Adventurers L to R: Thomas Johnson, Rebecca Marshall, Pam Burton, Danielle Burton, Jeremy Burton, Tiffany Swenson.

The highlight of the Slidell Bobcat Cubs year in 1994 was attending the Adventurer Fair in Houma, Louisiana. Following the opening ceremony, the Adventurers practiced their physical fitness skills. Running the mile was fun and challenging as the club members followed the winding trail at a nearby park. After lunch, the members worked on honors of special interest to each. Thomas Johnson and Tiffany Swenson chose Stamp Art, Jeremy and Danielle Burton chose Carpentry, and Rebecca Marshall chose Baskets. Each one completed a project, which they proudly took home to their families (Swenson, 1994).

Nature After Dark

The Baton Rouge, Houma, and Slidell Pathfinders spent a weekend at The Louisiana Nature Center, where they were given hands-on knowledge of the survival skills of animals. Their Nature After Dark excursion gave them the opportunity to touch some friendly nocturnal creatures. They then set off through the woods without flashlights to listen to the sounds of the night. They then bedded down in the nature center near the owl or the reptile cage. Early the next morning they went on another hike to see the things they had missed in the dark. Following a scavenger hunt the group loaded up headed for home (Guidry, n.d.).
